Our Apprenticeship Program
We are also a member of S.O.I.L (Stewards of Irreplaceable Land), a network which links prospective apprentices with potential farms. In 2007, we began our apprenticing program at the farm, hosting two farm apprentices between April and November. Because we run a mixed farming operation, we are able to offer our apprentices experience and instruction in many different areas: animal husbandry, slaughter, and butchering; vegetable, fruit, grass, and grain production; heavy equipment use and maintenance, logging, food preservation, cheese-making, marketing, welding, and more. If there is anything farm-related that we do not feel qualified to teach, we will find opportunities in the local farming community for our apprentices. We also possess a respectable agricultural library for those wishing to supplement their hands-on learning with bookwork.
In order to assist apprentices, we offer full room and board as well as a small stipend. We are also willing to consider providing apprentices with their own market garden and their own booth at the local farmers market. Call us or visit the S.O.I.L website for more details.
